Cosmic Altar

By Ramunas K Fishermang

A quick glance upwards soon extends to be a long gazing. Eyes try to grasp the seemingly infinite spectrum, but your vision meets a wall of something impenetrable. You can't see farther, you simply can't. Whether it is a limit of your eyes or if there in reality is a sort of barrier that won't let you go farther, you do not know. You never give up and soon you have constructed a tower that extends more light, possibly to help your eyes travel farther. You also assemble a device that goes far above, hoping that it will physically bring you closer. A manifestation of your inventions is a ritual, a yearning to see more and discover farther. An altar that welcomes your effort and endless sacrifice, but which is too small to make a difference. As the sky towers infinitely above you, you merely are just an observer. You know the meaningless nature of it, but it ironically doesn't matter to you. You know your part by heart, an infinite observer, invisible and irrelevant, but there you are. Observing. Still. ◄ This photo comes from Lofoten, Myrland beach. The lights were not visible to the naked eye. You can see a trace of a satellite here (it is not a shooting star) and a light tower on the mountain. I do not know what purpose it serves. I developed this photo from one exposure. I considered to remove the satelite trail as it can be distracting, but later it sent me into a spiral of thoughts that I decided to leave it. I ended up liking it. I tried to keep this photo calm in contrast and colors, but the variety of tones here is probably the closest I have come to rainbow vomit so far. In photoshop I did some work with clarity for the stars and adjustments of contrast to bring out the tonal range in the sky. I am struggling a bit with noise as you might see, it partly comes from my tendency to want things as sharp as possible (probably because I wear glasses because I can't see details in the distance). I did some dodging on the landscape in front to bring more light to it, but tried to balance it out so it doesn't seem too bright for the otherwise dark sky. Relevant music that if it were up to me, would play when the photo is displayed:

helicopter above trælanípan. faroe islands. Winter ...

By Tanner Wendell Stewart

helicopter above trælanípan. faroe islands. Winter in the Faroes is amazing, even though the sun is up for only 6 short hours in a day. We had a chance to fly in a helicopter from Torshavn to Vagar and past the amazing cliffs above the lake. The far right peninsula/cliff is where you hike to see that amazing perspective. If you look close you can see the waterfall that flows into the ocean. @visitfaroeislands #faroeislands #atlanticairways

Fantasy or Reality

By Nicola Pirondini

Hello everyone, today I'm sharing this old shot of mine that I posted more than one year ago, and that now is deep down in my 500px gallery (I really hope one day one could switch the order of the shots). Sorry for those who have already seen it. About the shot, it's an incredible sunrise we witnessed at the famous Vik location. We woke up one hour before sunrise and the sky was full of dark lenticular clouds, so we packed the stuff as fast as possible and drove to this place we scouted the day before. The sunrise was just out of this world, the colours were so vivid yet so strange, like the light was reflecting back up on the sky after hitting the water. I couldn't believe my eyes but I kept shooting and shooting for about 2 hours. Iceland light is so amazing!

~ Kinderdijk ~

By Remo Scarfò

The ultimate Dutch windmill experience EVERYTHING ABOUT DUTCH WINDMILLS!!!! What do you think of when you think of the Netherlands? I think of windmills, wooden shoes, Gouda cheese, canals in Amsterdam, and tall blonde women. Kinderdijk has the windmill category wrapped up in one experience! As a tourist this place is wonderful- real working windmills that served a purpose. The attraction is beautifully laid out, there are clean walking paths, historic centers, and a windmill museum where you can enter and interact with the characters who maintain the windmill. Want to make pictures? I would love to show you how, WITH my easy One Click Lightroom Presets and Photoshop actions that adapt to fit your photos :-) [email protected] Presets intended for use with Adobe Lightroom, or Adobe Lightroom Mobile. Can be converted to be used with Photoshop
